The Young Contemporaries 18

May 2018 brings us a new collective of Chesterfield College Art and Design students, who will form The Young Contemporaries 2018.

In collaboration with the West Studios Tenants Open Studios on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May, this creative group will host their first contemporary exhibition as professional artists. The group will be exhibiting a combination of work created within their courses alongside personal projects.

Throughout the journey these young artists will work with the professional creative businesses based at West Studios. They will receive extra advice and guidance about how to prepare and exhibit their work and themselves as professionals.

The exhibition promises to be an exciting look into how these young artists work, their future aims and how they intend to achieve them. Throughout the weekend the artists will be at West Studios giving Q&A sessions on their works and working on their next projects.

The standard of work is exceptional including Moy Weston a fine artist, who previously exhibited some of his brilliant portraits; Ellie Rhodes a photographer who focuses on derelict scenes; Kai Undrell a director, premiering his horror short film Sykes; Grace Banks who is on the brink of launching her own unisex fashion label; Syed Abubakr a printmaker and popular seller within the West Studios shop and Harriet Waterfall, a costume designer who will be showcasing her designs and sketchbook development.

The Open Studios weekend will run Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May, 10:30am-3:30pm. All tenant studios will be open for the public to visit and see where these professional businesses base themselves from. Tenant workshops, demonstrations and talks will run throughout the weekend from tenants including, Blue Oxen, sustainable womenswear label; Peter Swailes Ceramics and Edie OP illustrator.
