The Boy's Are Back In School Exhibition

This months exhibition celebrates the Old boys Grammar School’s 425th anniversary. We were able to speak to the Chairman of the Old Cestrefeldian’s Trust to find out a bit more about the exhibition.

Please introduce yourself and the exhibition:
I am Frank Gorman, Chairman of the Old Cestrefeldians’ Trust.

“The Boys are back in School” will be an exhibition of Chesterfield Grammar School artefacts and memorabilia relating to the school which occupied the Sheffield Road site from 1594 and the current building from 1846 until 1967.

The Trust is the charitable arm of the Old Cestrefeldian Society, the alumnus association for all boys who attended the School until its closure in 1991.  The Trust’s objectives are twofold: the preservation of all items which tell the history of the school and its many distinguished former pupils and the granting of fund aid to the students of the other schools in Chesterfield.

“Lance Storm & The Tempests”

“Lance Storm & The Tempests”

What is the inspiration behind the exhibition?
We felt that it was a very appropriate time for an exhibition as this is the 425th  year since the School’s founding in 1594 and the centenary next year of the inauguration of the Old Cestrefeldian Society, (who’s Presidents’ Board is on the wall of the lower corridor).  .  Its title is a rather playful adaptation of the song (The Boys are back in Town) by Thin Lizzy.

What can people expect to see when they visit the exhibition?
A very wide range of School artefacts and memorabilia including  various cups, caps, ties, scarves, magazines, films of school activities, scrapbooks, photos, form lists etc.

For this edit I thought it would be interesting to try to reflect the recent foggy and dull weather in this eerie and rustic feeling display.
